When I dance... I feel free... I lose all perception of time and space... it is a great feeling of excitement as the full range of movement becomes apparent... I surrender to the comforting pressure of the floor beneath me and the air around me... I am myself...

Site Exploration
As part of our Dance and Theatre session we were asked to select and explore a space outside the studio.
Our first step towards this was simply sitting quietly in the space, absorbing the sounds and images around us. We then made a mind map of our impression of the site and began to move and feel our way around the space.
My site was one level of a stairway. For me, the key features of this space were the gaps between the steps where I could let parts of my body disappear, and the contrast between the scratchy carpet and the cold metal hand rails. I also enjoyed making sounds around the space; this included my finger nails on the carpet and tapping on the walls.
This was a relativelty new experience for me but I found it affected me quite deeply - I enjoyed having a space of my own where I could effectively start from scratch, using the senses to guide me. I only touched the surface of what could be possible in this site and I hope to develop this work further in the future...

Improvisation Class
This piece of work was created after a brief improviation exercise in groups of three...
We had to remain silent throughout the exercise, and move as a group to a place in the building seperate from other groups.
Once there we were still not allowed to speak and instead we simply had to listen to all the sounds around us...
This picture shows a kind of mind map of the experience.
It was very difficult not to talk to anyone but the number of different sounds you hear is amazingly interesting!!

Working with Siobhan Davies Dance Artists
This is a piece of work we did to document our creative process in a workshop with artists from Siobhan Davies Dance. It shows my thought process in creating and improvising movement and what key words and images particularly affected me.
